Ranking and decision support

Putting items in order or suggesting a choice.

Draft guidance. Classification does not assign a risk rating or authorise use.

Definition

AI capability that orders items or suggests priorities using stated or inferred criteria

Adapted definition: DCI AI Hub, A Taxonomy for AI in Social Protection, section 1.1, Ranking and decision systems.

Notes to entry

Note 1 to entry: A ranking can influence a decision without making it. Record the criteria, affected people and the point at which a person decides.

The proposed AidGPT code is C-RANK. The label is adapted from the DCI taxonomy.

Example

A system suggests which complaints staff should read first. The order may affect response time even when staff retain the final decision.

What to record

Describe what happens if someone accepts the result unchanged. Does it support staff work, influence programme choices or affect a person’s assistance, safety or access to information? These questions guide the assessment. They do not assign a risk level.

For a system that combines tasks, consider the consequences of the whole sequence as well as each step. A summary that appears harmless may feed into a decision with serious consequences. Its file format does not tell you how it will be used.
